I made it!! I’m a Peace Corps Volunteer. My 22 fellow trainees and I made the big leap in a swearing in ceremony yesterday. We took an oath, and now we’re volunteers!
Highlights of the ceremony include:
The Colombian National anthem played by a local folkloric band, which was pretty jiving and awesome.
The American National anthem played on a kazoo. Actually it was a leaf but it sounded like a kazoo.
Lots of speeches from such dignitaries as the mayor of Barranquilla, the governor of Atlantico, the ambassador of the US, our country director, and two volunteers from Colombia one, and two volunteers from our group.
Also there was cake!
ps my hair’s real straight. I got what is known as a “blower”
